How to use

A short guide to everything Catat Saja does, and where to find it.

Getting started

Create an account, then use the menu to move between Notes, Tasks, Finances and Health.

  • Sign up with your email and a password (then open the link in the verification email), or sign in with Google.
  • New accounts are offered end-to-end encryption right after signing up: choose a passphrase and save the recovery code somewhere safe, or continue without it and turn it on later.
  • Choose Install app on the home page or in the account menu to add Catat Saja to your phone or computer. It opens even when you are offline.
  • Everything saves itself as you type. The "Saving…" and "Saved" status next to the date shows when it is done.

Notes

Write anything down: ideas, plans, recipes, minutes.

  • On the Notes page, choose New note and start typing. Choose Format or right-click for bold text, headings and lists.
  • Leaving a note keeps it, even if you never pressed Save.
  • Pin a note to the top of the list with the pin on its card. In an open note, use the icon bar at the top to archive it to tidy your list (it moves to Archived at the bottom, only for you), share it, undo or redo changes, or delete it.
  • The Gemini menu (the sparkles icon) can summarise a note, tidy it up, translate it between English and Indonesian, or turn it into a new task list.

Tasks

Checklists for shopping, packing, chores or anything with steps.

  • On the Tasks page, choose New task, give it a title and type each item in Add item.
  • Paste several lines at once to add one item per line.
  • Tap an item to edit it, move it up or down to reorder, and use Check all or Uncheck all for the whole list.
  • Checked items move to Completed at the bottom. If you remove an item by mistake, undo it from the message that appears.

Finances

Keep a book for a month, a trip or a project, with income, expenses and the balance.

  • On the Finances page, choose New book and pick the book's currency.
  • Choose Add entry for each income or expense: description, amount, quantity, category and date. Amount fields accept sums such as 25000+12000.
  • Categories are suggested from your own past entries, worked out on your device. You can always change them.
  • An entry can be in another currency: it keeps the rate you used, so the book's totals never shift. Set your currencies and rates in Settings → Currency.
  • Add Your accounts (wallets, bank accounts) to check them against the book's balance.
  • The book shows cash flow, the balance over time and spending by category, as charts or as a table.
  • Choose Gemini to scan a receipt or use Quick add. Scan receipt reads a photo into entries, and Quick add turns typed text like "lunch 45rb, salary 8jt yesterday" into entries. Both use Gemini, and you check the entries before they are added.

Health

Keep a health log for yourself, a child or a parent.

  • On the Health page, create a log with a name, sex and birth date.
  • Choose Add measurement to record weight and height (with BMI), blood sugar, uric acid, cholesterol, calories or a period.
  • For a child, growth is compared with the WHO standards from birth to 19 years, with percentiles and the Kemenkes status.
  • Results are shown against reference ranges, never as a diagnosis. Ask a doctor about anything that worries you.
  • Add reminder to be reminded to measure every few days or before an expected period. Due reminders show in the app, and turn on notifications in Settings to be alerted on time.
  • Settings → Health chooses the adult BMI categories and the units results are shown in.

Find anything you wrote, across notes, tasks, finances and health logs.

  • Choose Search in the side menu (the Search button on a phone), or press Ctrl K (⌘ K on a Mac) or / from any page.
  • Search looks at titles and content. Choose See all to filter a list by what you typed.

Sharing

Share any note, task list, finance book or health log with other people who use Catat Saja.

  • Choose Share in the icon bar, find someone by their email, and give them read-only or edit access. They get an invitation, and the item is added to their list once they accept.
  • Something shared with you shows as an invitation at the top of your lists and under the bell beside your photo: Accept to add it to your list, Decline, or Block to also stop that person inviting you (unblock them in Settings → Account).
  • Changes show up for everyone straight away. People with read-only access can't change anything.
  • You can copy a link to the item, and undo removing someone.
  • Something shared with you can be taken off your own list with Remove from my list; it stays for everyone else.

End-to-end encryption

Your items are encrypted on your device, so only you and the people you share with can read them; not even we can.

  • New accounts can set it up right after signing up. If you skipped it, or your account is older, turn it on in Settings → Account → Security.
  • Unlock your data on each device with your passphrase, your recovery code, or a passkey (fingerprint, face or device PIN).
  • Keep your recovery code safe: if you forget your passphrase, it is the only way back into your encrypted items.
  • Choose Lock this device in the account menu when you are done on a shared computer.

Gemini helpers

Optional helpers that use Google's Gemini: receipt scanning, quick add, dictation, and the note and task list helpers.

  • The first time you use one, a notice explains what is sent. Nothing is sent until you choose a photo, press a button or stop a recording.
  • You always see the result first, and nothing is added or changed until you accept it. Gemini's changes can be undone.
  • Gemini's free tier lets Google use what is sent to improve its services, even for encrypted items, so don't send what you'd rather keep private.
  • You can stop using Gemini at any time in Settings → Account → AI features.

Settings

Open Settings from the side menu, or from the account menu (your photo) on a phone.

  • General: your name and photo; light, dark or system theme; text size and language; the menu order and the page the app opens on.
  • Account: your email, linking Google, encryption and passkeys, and the AI features.
  • Currency: your currencies and their rates, and how amounts are written.
  • Health: how health results are judged and shown.
